Massing is thoughtfully sliced, peeled, or extruded from an imaginary block in order to maximize programatic requirements at this single family home. Framing views, sheltering from the western sun and the elements, while creating opportunities for privacy at the house’s most public facades, was a priority best implemented through controlled wall angles and the conception of a porous facade cantilevering over the home’s main entry. The house sits elegantly above the stepping landscape and an edgeless pool extends out of a deeply carved west facing terrace. A reflecting pool placed within a volumetric cutout, next to a sculptural stair, threads the tropical garden and the architecture.
